“This solo is exactly what it shows: my ripped-up heart offered to you. Why do I do what I do? Dance, time, body, old, hard, movement, dance, art represent everything, but I am more than everything. I am perfection, you will love me and everyone in this room participates in the dance." Miguel Guiterrez
In this solo with a tv set, a videotape recorder, boom box, microphone, video camera and other basic props, Miguel Gutierrez proceeds to a live examination of the merciless passing of time.
Retrospective Exhibitionist is a sort of auto-fiction by this dancer-performer, asking questions on art and life as well as on his own story.
This show is presented as part of
= 2 shows + Franco-American introductory course
Background
Miguel Gutierrez is a New-York based choreographer and an outstanding performer. He possesses an extraordinary voice and an acute sense of drama. This is why, when he uses his own life as material for his shows, he creates funny, deep, intelligent and madcap performances. In this solo with various props, Miguel Gutierrez proceeds to a live examination of the merciless passing of time. Retrospective Exhibitionist is a sort of self-fiction by this dancer-performer, asking questions on art and life as well as on his own story. An incredible, crazy and sensitive attempt at self-promotion.
