"L’ARGENT!?"
COLLECTIF ILDI ! ELDI
First production / Theatre
25, 26, 27 and 28 MARCH 2010
Moolah, dosh, dough, readies... a thousand words to reflect a reality: money. After sex, money is the new topic tackled by Ildi! Eldi, a young theatre collective from Lyon. Inspired by a poetic text by Christophe Tarkos and various sociology and psychoanalysis books, these three partners-in-crime examine our relationship with wealth. They collect situations and questions, and hold a subtle and direct mirror to our little arrangements and modest enrichments. You can count on them to sell you in a flash the most unbelievable hypotheses on the state of your mind and your wallet.

Christophe Tarkos is an odd choice, is it not, for theatre people who prone simplicity and fiction?
Ildi ! eldi : Not at all. Tarkos’s text is simple and crystal clear. It praises money, taking the opposite view to the usual general opinion: it’s optimistic, poetic and borderline. Even the language seems to be worth money. You feel like at the same time he writes his poem, he is selling it. You think: “What the hell is it, really, what is he trying to sell me?” There is something strangely sensual in this. Tarkos’s work will be at the base of ours and we’ll endeavour to produce a simple and direct piece of theatre. We’ll explore a thousand situations, some very concrete situations where money is present, within increasingly more intimate moment. By tackling the topic head-on, what is exciting is to examine with the audience this topic, which is paradoxically being talked about all the time while nothing is really being said.
“Money is the supreme value. Money gives value to all that is, to a gesture, to a word. It spreads the weight of every stirring. To give the supreme value all of one’s thoughts is to receive a sure guide on how to behave. A precise thought and behaviour are associated with the universal value of money. Out of money derives a soothing of the mind.”
