Horaires : à déterminer
“I don’t have the choice”: how often do we end up saying that little sentence… Xavier Kim wants to write a circus show on this very notion of choice. Through it, he wants to tell the relationship between the individual and the group. At the end of the day, what or who do we obey? This multimedia circus artist and acrobat, and his company A.K.Y.S. Projecte, aim to explore and to dissolve the boundaries between circus, dance and theatre and to call upon social, political and economical realities. Somewhere between performing and digital arts, he examines the society we live in.
In residence: 22 February - 28 March 2010
Xavier Kim :
“Innovation and creativity are the keys to get us out of the crisis. This is a well-known refrain. Strangely however, if the iPhone is a revolution in the field of mobile communications, nothing comes up on the drawing board that could bring something positive enhancing the future for all of us, our everyday lives and that of our neighbours. Basically, what is known as general happiness. This is why, dear public, we have decided to remedy this situation, and to invite you to a game of creative ping-pong. We are serving the fist ball!”
Background
Xavier Kim is a formally trained dancer and circus artist. He co-founded in 97 the collective called La Muse Gueule, with which he set up camp in places of work and experimentation. As part of this experience, he got acquainted with the figure of the clown, discovered acrobatics and dance with Lin Yuan Shang in Petites Formes Chorégraphiques Itinérantes (2002) and with Kitsou Dubois in Analogies (2004). Exploring multimedia techniques, he creates shows that aim to take a critical look at today’s world. In 2002, he was awarded the prize of Best Circus Budding Talent (Jeunes Talents Cirque ) with #0.0, a show he presented at Les Subsistances during the 2004 Intranquilles Festival. His latest, 100% croissance, was created at Les Subsistances in 2007, in partnership with female dancer Wei Chen Yang, and will be showcased in May 2010 at the San Francisco International Art Festival.
