Circus / Show on BMX - Music

Vincent Warrin & Pierre-Jean Carrus / Cie 3.6/3.4
« Trois - quatre petites pièces pour vélo » (“Three - four short pieces for bicycle”)

Open to all (8+ years)

Vincent Warin* was a world number two in BMX.
What’s BMX, I hear you ask? You know, these little bikes on which some guys do incredible tricks! But what’s BMX got to do with art? Everything, actually, when Vincent Warin gets hold of one of them: poetry, acrobatics, musicality, movement, it’s all there.
"Trois ou quatre petites pièces de vélo" is built as a series of theatre scenes, a dance full of sensitivity and humour. With the help of Pierre-Jean Carrus, a musician and composer of contemporary music, Warin has created a breathtaking sonata for tyres, derailleur and brakes. The guy is obviously a genius on his bike, but technique slowly makes way for movement, rhythms, and inspiration. Man, sounds, and machine come together for a result both enchanting and breathtaking, which takes us in a real journey.

Vincent Warin started practising BMX as a sport (French champion and world number two in 1991).  Awarded the Bronze medal and the Cirque du Soleil Prize at the 15th Festival du cirque de demain in 1997, he now focuses entirely on the field of performing arts: contemporary circus (Cirque Baroque, collectif AOC, Carles Santos, Pierre-Jean Carrus…), dance and theatre (Blanca Li, Gilles Defacque, Doreen Vasseur…).

Pierre-Jean Carrus, a classically trained musician (pianist, composer and teacher), has designed and directed several shows mixing music and musicians with various art forms such as theatre, puppeteering, video, and circus (Circus Cantabilé, Vienne 1900, Mozart au bistrot, Comment on fait pour le soleil…). A relevant and irreverent vision of music.

"A bike on stage is totally absurd.
For a bike, a stage is either too big or too small, both huge and cramped. Trajectories are limited, you have to go around and around and back and forth, or do track-stands. But a bike, even an immobile one, is already a sign of a possible journey. On a stage, it can fly, unwind kilometre after kilometre of road, and create a horizon without you realising. Bikes are also a way to transport you. "

"It’s not about doing one trick after another, like in competition. The goal is to compose, with changes and transfers – and a few tricks, a general movement of the body and the bike, in its simplest purity and complexity, and to compare and contrast its rhythm and dynamic to those of sounds."
