FOCUS ON A FEW PROJECTS BY RESIDENT ARTISTS

David Bobee / Groupe Rictus
In residence in July 2012
Dans le théâtre by David Bobee, Romeo and Juliette leave the 15th century and live out their passion today. to tell the famous Shakespearean tale with a very sharp political angle, the director touches on the play’s homicidal struggles with theatrics bordering on choreography.
David Bobee works from Pascal Collin’s new translation of Roméo et Juliette, adapted for today’s style of oral delivery. The prose is erotic and tackles the violence of today’s social context, between questions of religion, intolerance, and hate. As for his memorable Hamlet, Bobee continues to base his creation on a particular material. for Roméo et Juliette, he chose copper: sets in copper, dramaturgy of light, coppery bodies for a play in which the issue of sensuality is central. There will be fourteen actors, dancers and acrobats on stage. This creation, produced in the context of a residency at Les Subsistances constitutes the first phase in a long-term collaboration between La Biennale de la danse and Les Subsistances. Playing in September 2012.
