Following a dual education in dance and engineering,
Sophie Brenas worked as an interpreter for dance and theatre companies in Spain, Germany and France. Thanks to her experience as a dancer, she got in contact with various and very different artistic fields, from Japanese contemporary dance to mask theatre and the theatre of objects. Her approach as a choreographer is influenced by these different experiences but also by her scientific training, which takes her on research paths where art and science cohabit and where questions on matter and the human body feed the artistic process.
The artistic focus of the
company Onama is the research process at the crossing between dance, theatre and visual arts. Depending on the nature of the projects, it initiates partnerships between video artists, dancers, actors and musicians. The relationship between a moving body and a specific space is at the heart of this research. The body examines the space and reveals its different qualities: space of the flesh, space of the thought, physical space, or immaterial space. The ambiguity of perceptions and sensations constitutes a breeding ground for this exploration.
