Les SUBS, living place for artistic experiences

Sublime, subtle, subversive, subjective, substantial, sub-cultural.

In a remarkable heritage site on the banks of the Saône in Lyon, Les SUBS are both a working space for artists and a place where everyone can live and create art. Artistic residencies, cultural cooperation, original mediation initiatives and inclusive projects: the SUBS support today’s creation by bringing together aesthetic ambitions, amateur practices, creative spirit, eco-sensitivity and social and generational diversity. Theater, dance, music, circus, visual and digital arts: the full diversity of the contemporary scene flourishes here, fostering the consecration of international figures and the revelation of young regional talent.

Faithful to its original spirit, the SUBS is renewing the modalities of its actions by developing new strategic axes: new impetus to support creation (with the winning bet of in-house productions), new residency schemes (linked to the regional territory and the international scene), new partnership dynamics, unprecedented mediation actions and inclusive projects, resumption of the bar/terrace operation, artistic metamorphoses of spaces with ephemeral scenographic commissions and a global site approach with their neighbor, the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.

Tailor-made residencies

Les SUBS support contemporary creation by hosting thirty artistic teams in residence each season. Theatre, dance, music, circus, visual and digital arts… all the diversity of the contemporary scene has its place at Les SUBS, especially the aesthetic adventures that shake up our spectator habits.

Les SUBS welcome artists who are just starting out in their professional career as well as more experienced artists, independent artists and formed teams, local artists and international artists.

The modalities of reception in residence are voluntarily variable to adapt to the needs of the artists, to the nature of their project and to their level of completion.

Production & tours

To go further in the support that Les SUBS brings to the creation, artists and projects benefit from a complete accompaniment, from the assembly of the production to the diffusion of the shows. The SUBS team ensures all management operations, structuring and valuation of supported projects.
