Biographie
Louise Siffert trained in scenography before joining the High National School of Fine Arts in Paris (École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts). She is a member of DOC !, a self-managed artistic space in Paris. Louise Siffert’s performances and films question politically marginal communities and their archives. Through the making of costumes, props and soundtracks, Louise Siffert creates and inhabits visual sets that plunge us into a makeshift, immersive and grotesque universe, recalling the « camp » and dissident aesthetics of artifice. Her latest project, WE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO DIE, was shown at the Actoral festival, at La Ménagerie de Verre and at the Centre Pompidou. With Lavender Nightmare (2026 creation), she begins a research project around the representation of the lesbian vampire in various corpuses of film and literary works.
A thorough deconstruction of the representations of lesbian vampires through the lens of male directors of Z-movies.
Beneath the thick fog of a smoke machine hides a cardboard manor with miniature, finely detailed features. Inside, actors with sharpened teeth play in a « camp » and wonderfully fake manner, to the shrill sound of a theremin that kicks in whenever the clouds pass and obscure the moon. In a great race against a newly infinite time and their monstrous transformations into vampires (into lesbians?), they struggle in a sinister and sometimes moving way against what seem to be their « unnatural » actions and desires. And, as the nightmares grow more and more intense and the suspicions more and more obvious, the realisation of what they might be becoming pushes them (through yet another thick layer of ridiculously dense fog invading the stage) to the inevitable… Bite
LAVENDER NIGHTMARE draws on the « Universal Classic Monsters » films, on melodramatic teen movies and, more generally, on all the lesbian vampire films written and shot by men. This work is an extension of my previous performance and film projects: they are concerned with the archives of the history of queer cultures, aiming to think a collective transformation of our societies, defined as neoliberal.
