ALISON S.M. KOBAYASHI / VIDEO-PERFORMANCE
The bogeyman, werewolves and other mythical childhood terrors are the alter egos of Alison Kobayashi, a young Japanese-Canadian videast-performer. Her amazing talent won’t be a secret much longer . . . if the wolf doesn’t eat her! Based on video sequences, her performances humorously deconstruct our concepts of gender, sexuality, race and class. Making real or imagined destinies her own, she reveals our representational codes to us. It seems like child’s play, an innocent carnival, but it’s a frightening mirror she holds up to our crazy desire to conform.

COMPAGNIE MOTUS / THEATRE
More than ten years ago, Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò founded the Motus company to try to create theatre that speaks of our time. With a sharp sense of imagery, they create raw, intense shows with strong political roots. Seeing manipulation of fear as a contemporary means of social control, they make it the basis of their show.

JEREMY WADE / DANCE
Jeremy Wade creates expressionist, transgressive dance. Deeply organic and based on the body’s experience more than on any particular theoretical posture, this American choreographer works here on the transmission of fear: how it’s communicated, why it invades space, and how we can share it to conquer it.
