Thomas Lebrun

Les rois de la piste

Du 30 janvier au 3 février 2018

Meet up on the dance floor of outdated electric nightclub where the funk and hits give everyone ants their pants. For just one night under the disco ball and lights, they really get into the groove, unafraid and unabashed, clumsily revealing what they would like to be—and what they really are. The portrait gallery put together by Thomas Lebrun and his group is a magnificent ode to awkward, generous humanity, drunk with itself but also fragile. Skillfully choreographed and danced, this piece takes us on a highly amusing trip through our desire to be stars of the dance floor, where no one dies from looking ridiculous.

A dancer for choreographers Bernard Glandier, Daniel Larrieu, Christine Bastin, Christine Jouve, and Pascal Montrouge, Thomas Lebrun founded Illico in 2000. Lebrun has co-authored several works, including with Foofwa d’Imobilité, Cécile Loyer and Radhouane El Meddeb, and emphasizes teaching and transmission. He has also choreographed for foreign companies and dancers, such as the National Ballet in Liaonning, China, the Grupo Tapias in Brazil, Lithuanian dancer and choreographer Lora Juodkaité, etc. In July 2010 he fulfilled a commission for the Avignon Festival and the SACD (Les Sujets à Vif). In May 2011, he premiered Six order pieces, a solo blending the visions of six invited artists (Michèle Noiret, Bernard Glandier, Ursula Meier, Scanner, Charlotte Rousseau and Jean-Marc Serre) during the Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis. In June 2014 Lebrun was awarded the SACD’s prize for choreography. Invited to the Cloître des Carmes at the 68th Avignon Festival in July 2014, he premiered Lied Ballet, a piece in three acts for eight dancers, one tenor, and one pianist. In May 2016 he premiered Avant toutes disparitions, a piece for 12 dancers, at the Théâtre National de Chaillot. His latest piece, Les rois de la piste, premiered in November 2016 at the national center for dance (CCN) in Tours. Lebrun has been the director of the Tours CCN since January 2012.
