Show created at Subsistances for the Aire de Jeu festival – January 2013, on the music of Julia Wolf.
Tânia Carvalho created The Recoil of Words from a piece of music by the American composer Julia Wolf. In this dance piece, a bagpipe hums as faces appear like gargoyles. The Portuguese choreographer builds a world of twisted bodies that loom out of the dark like devils from a box. From the strange and captivating score, played live, she extracts a cadence for the bodies and a gloomy but almost carnival-like murmur. A magnificent dance piece!
