Steven Cohen

put your heart under your feet… and walk/à Elu

Steven Cohen presented to the Subsistances many pieces, including the emblematic Chandelier at the reopening of the Subs in 2004 and on the occasion of 10 years in 2014.

put your heart under your feet… and walk/à Elu is an homage by the South African performer Steven Cohen to his deceased companion, Elu. They have both premiered some of their work at Les Subsistances, and this very special, poetic piece is a memorial work of art. It is radical and uncompromising, of incredible beauty, and just barely tolerable. It represents, but doesn’t play. It is a ritual offered up to the loved one, brutal yet careful, transgressive and drunk with love. “I want to be with you forever,” said Elu.
