Grand témoin: Carolyn Carlson

With Ariane Bavelier

Monday 30 January 2017 at 20:30

An unusual dancer and choreographer, Carolyn Carlson is a major figure in the emergence of French contemporary dance, leaving her imprint in places like the Opéra de Paris, the Théâtre de la Ville, and the Festival d’Avignon… Since she arrived in Paris in 1971, she has created more than one hundred pieces, many of which occupy a significant place in the history of dance, from Density 21.5 to The Year of the Horse, Blue Lady to Steppe, Maa to Signes, and Writings on Water to Inanna.
In 1999 she founded the Atelier de Paris-Carolyn Carlson at La Cartoucherie, and from 2014 to 2016, she and her company were the associate artist at the Théâtre National de Chaillot. In 2006, her work received the first Lion d’Or ever awarded to a choreographer by the Venice Biennale.
Carolyn Carlson originated a dance resolutely turned toward philosophy and spirituality, and describes her choreographies as “visual poems”. A tireless traveler, she defines herself as a nomad, always looking to expand and share her poetic world. Here, she offers us a rare, privileged moment.
