In the Middle Ages, it was said that blind people could not fall in love as passion had to be transmitted through the eyes. No first look, no love. "We are all Tiresias”, replies Oskar Gómez Mata in Epiphaneïa, a fantasy tale for twelve actors. A show-performance to discover disappearance, the arrogance of being oneself, of the self, of the exhibition of the self, of representation… Is Oskar Gómez Mata an eccentric? Probably, but he is also an artist that desperately tries, with his angelic looks, to drastically change the status of the spectator. His company, L'Alakran, is a Swiss ensemble with strong Spanish accents and the unlikeliest of appearances. L’Alakran will make you laugh out loud as they turn the absurd and the shifts in meaning into a mode of human relation.
Oskar Gómez Mata is a Basque director who has been based in Geneva, Switzerland, for over ten years now. From “Boucher espagnol” to “Cerveau cabossé” to "Psychophonies de l’âme" and more recently to “Optimistic vs Pessimistic”, his company, L’Alakran, creates the craziest theatrical experiments in a decidedly caustic and committed way. At Les Subsistances, he has presented La chambre des disparitions with 12 actors and 6 spectators (as part of “A space for live art” - Les Intranquilles Festival 2006).
