Do you speak Gilbertese, Bamileke, Tagalog or Spanish? The WeekEnd will mark the start of a big Language Library at Les Subsistances. We will continue collecting languages every year, until hopefully one day we have all 6000 languages spoken by humans in the world. This “Library”, invented by On-situ, will be made of words, video images, sound bites, and key phrases in foreign languages collected from the WeekEnd’s visitors. It will be shown in big format on the walls of Les Subsistances for 4 days, then will become a tool available to Les Subsistances during the rest of the year.
"A smile, a frown. A tensing, a relaxation, a light movement. The muscles start moving and we get transported from joy to sadness, from listening to scepticism. The face speaks. An encoded language, seeded with messages, expressions. A non verbal language, an universal language. Come and drop off your word, mute, into the on situ’s automatic photo booth. It will then fly off, be pronounced in silence, and be projected during 4 days on the walls of The Substistances." on-situ
On-situ‘s team explores all facets of the treatment of images. It innovates, carries out new forms of cultural mediation, and creates with its own projects unique experiences which are at the same time sensitive, visual and sensory.
