Les Subsistances are a heritage site with a rich history. While the first traces of occupation date back to 100-200 A.D. (glassblower workshop and quarry of pink granite from the Gallic era), the last four centuries are the most significant period. Since the 17th Century, Les Subsistances have had three main roles: first used as a convent (pink ochre building), then as army barracks (yellow ochre buildings), the site turned into a cultural venue in 2000. Nowadays, it includes a creative research laboratory dedicated to theatre, dance and contemporary circus, and the School of fine arts of Lyon.
