Collectif

Collectif Sounds of Ben

Around the composer Ben Johnston
Order, intense, singular: two creations to discover the work of an American composer to the ultrasensitive music

Ponder Nothing / Ned Rothenberg & Wally Cardona
Creation-Dance-music
Two New Yorkers, one a choreographer, the other a musician, meet over a Ben Johnston clarinet solo. Two great artists help us discover a little-known work.

Calamity Jane, lettres à sa fille / Jean Lacornerie
Creation-Theater-music
A musical piece for soprano, violin, synthesizer and percussion by the American composer Ben Johnston, based on letters believed to be written by Calamity Jane to her daughter.

Circus

Circus Large format

Les Beaux Orages (qui nous étaient promis) / Collectif Petit Travers – Creation
Juggling to an electronic score 7 virtuoso jugglers take control of a score composed for them by electronic-music composer Pierre Jodlowski. A moment of pure fascination during which a lighthearted yet obsessive rhythm comes to life.

Lard / La Scabreuse – Circus
Serious circus? Yes, but it’s not entirely circus, and very strangely serious. Nathan Israël and Volodia Lesluin, accompanied by Paola Rizza, have for some time been engaged in some strange research, using juggling, dance, clowning, acrobatics, and words to tame anything and everything, especially opposites: the beautiful and the ugly, the clean and the dirty, the animal and the human. They are creating a farce full of oddities about humans and pigs, power and otherness.

Circus Outdoors

Sans Arrêt / Cie El Nucleo –  Circus (free)
Feinting, trickery, surprise, and hamming it up are the essence of this show, which plays on simplicity and authenticity.

WillyGoodWood / Cie BAM –  Circus (free)
The BAM company introduces its circus through dynamic numbers colorfully punctuated by humorous segues involving the Chinese pole, acrobatics and the teeterboard.

Dance

Miriam / Nora Chipaumire – Creation – Dance
The choreographer Nora Chipaumire’s dance is a synthesis between her contemporary American training and her African roots. Born in Zimbabwe, Chipaumire won awards in 2007 and 2008 in New York, and more recently in Los Angeles. In her new piece, she pays homage to Miriam Makeba, a major figure of African resistance: as half-angels, half-devils, she and her magnificent partner Okwui Okpokwasili dance the destiny of women who resist despite the weight of cultural traditions.

Live art

Minute papillon / Denis Mariotte –  Creation
A solo by composer, musician and performance artist Denis Mariotte. To explore the idea of multiple identities, Mariotte weaves together all the elements of the stage and the bodies, music and lights. A hindrance or a store of wealth, this body forged by impressions that link our past and present experiences, our successive and sometimes simultaneous roles?

Récital / Olivier Normand – Dance
“Recital explores the transition from male to female through gestures, voice and a daring game.” Le Monde, 30 November 2012
