Presentation

Intimate, intense, peculiar: two creations through which to discover the work of an American composer who writes ultra-sensitive music.

NED ROTHENBERG & WALLY CARDONA
Ponder Nothing earthly mindedDance-music

This solo for clarinet has serious, deep tones. The choreographer Wally Cardona gives it body and movement. With the exceptional musician Ned Rothenberg, he shows us both the extreme sensitivity of Ben Johnston’s music and the incredible rhythmics of his composition. These two New York artists have worked very closely together to help us see and feel the thousand and one facets of this score, written as if in one breath.

JEAN LACORNERIE
Calamity Jane, Lettres à sa fille / Musical theatre

Ben Johnston’s Calamity Jane is a mother as much as a voice. His musical piece for soprano, violin, synthesizer and percussion, directed by Jean Lacornerie, gives voice to the mythical and tender face of the terror of the Far West.
