From a space monolith appears a “Dalian” creature—a perfect mix of “pop” Diva and arthouse film. Far from the whims of Mariah Carey, she is there where we don’t expect her. This performance is the result of Mickaël Salvi’s fascination with the stars and 2001: A Space Odyssey. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts of Lyon, this young performer takes the audience to a strange and colorized world, a successful hybridization of performance and film. His experiments, originally presented as videos, have slowly slipped toward live performance art tinged with Queer culture and kitsch.
« My preparation ritual before taking the mic is to reuse and replay in a non-theatrical way with my theatrical designs for elements referring to Kubrick’s film. [Note: “spectaculaire”, “objet” et “scénique” ont plusieurs traductions possibles; il faut interroger l’auteur pour être sûr du sens.] Twisting a film’s dialogue by making it more sensual and eventually singing “Au clair de la Lune” in playback from a serial-killer computer progressively emptied of its memory to become a child again and die.»
