The meaning of family

Caroline Broué

Sunday 17 november

Debate

Presentation

Theme : Normal/ Abnormal

More than ever now, the family seems to have regained its status in the public discourse as a fundamental societal value. Challenging it was one of the pillars of the social movements of the 1970s, but the family is once again being portrayed as the epitome of happiness. Far from the soothing rhetoric, however, the family is evolving and recomposing, calling into question its very definition.

What does the immutable imperative to “found a family” mean ? What are the legal, social, sexual, and societal consequences of redefining it ?
