A mobile network of artists


Les Subsistances are part of a national and international artistic network. Far from just offering residences and showing foreign productions, Les Subsistances build bridges with artists and organisations from various countries. The aim is for French and foreign artists to be confronted with other ways to view contemporary productions.


As part of our international exchange endeavours,
projects are developed with...
… the United States                               
- American artists in residence and American productions shown at Les Subsistances (Jeremy Wade, etc.)
- Introduction of French artists in the United States (Jean-Baptiste André – Association [W]), in particular as part of the Texas-French Alliance for the Arts.
- Participation to the FUSED think tank and distribution network  (6 French organisations: Centre National de la Danse, La Villette, CNDC d’ Angers, Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers, CCN de Belfort and Les Subsistances as well as 20 American organisations)
 
… Europe                                          
- Building a European network on performance arts with Scotland (Glasgow’s New Moves Festival), Belgium (Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels), Slovenia (City of women in Ljubljana), Germany (Kampnagel in Hamburg), and Finland (Anti festival in Kupio). This network was created in an endeavour to answer the following question: What is performance art in Europe today?

- "2ND SKIN" Project - Tandem European Project France/Austria
Les Subsistances & Tanzquartier (Wien) have invited 4 choreographers (Alexandre Roccoli / Chris Haring / Alain Buffard / Anne Juren) + 4 stylists (Sébastien Meunier / Asha Mines / The house of the very island / Wendy&Jim) + 3 theoreticians (Olivier Saillard / Brigitte Felderer / Elke Gaudele) = 4 residences / productions
- Austrian artists in residence and Austrian productions: Daniel Aschwanden & Peter Stamer.

Welcoming Swiss artists as part of La Belle Voisine project. (Zimmermann & de Perrot, Oskar Gomez Mata / L'Alakran, Cie 7273)

Artists from Berlin’s art scene were present at Les Subsistances in 2007 (Alice Chauchat & Frédéric Gies / Projet Praticable)

AND planned partnerships with Asia and Africa

2006/2007 Season

9 foreign artists in residence:
Angéla Laurier (Quebec), Juan Dominguez (Spain), Antonia Baer (Germany), Alexandre Roccoli (France / Germany), Keith Hennessy (US), Eszter Salamon (Hungary/Germany), Xavier Leroy (France/Germany), Steven Cohen (South Africa), Jeremy Wade (US).

Les Subsistances will show 3 foreign productions: Jonah Bokaer’s “Charade”, Xavier Leroy’s “Self & Finish”, and Nicolas Cantillon & Laurence Yadi’s “Climax”.

Jean-Baptiste André’s “Comme en plein jour”, created at Les Subsistances, was shown as part of an international tour (Houston)

Concerts by 5 Swiss bands: Husky, Hell’s Kitchen, Honey for Petzi, What’s wrong with us?, Les Reines Prochaines.
